Sparked by the
need to support Black women who were new to the field of
business, Mrs. Lola Mercedes
Parker of Chicago, Illinois had a vision for an organization that
would make a difference in not only the society of
the time but also the world of the future. Early in 1929, she
called together six friends to discuss a plan for establishing a
sorority that would add prestige to the field of business and to those
women who had chosen business as a career.
On
June 1st of the same year, the first chapter Alpha Chapter was
created, taking the first step in the founding of a national business
sorority –
Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.
